The Curatorial Narrative
Some objects do not just occupy a space; they capture a movement. The Swati Cart Wheel is a monumental nod to the old trade routes of the Hindu Kush. No longer bound to the mountain paths, this salvaged, solid-timber wheel has been reborn as a striking piece of sculptural wall art, carrying the dust, stories, and spirit of the north within its grain.
The massive wooden body of the wheel is densely decorated with deep-relief Kandaari chip-carvings. Master carvers follow the natural circular flow of the wheel, engraving radiating geometric spokes, repeating sunburst panels, and fluid floral scrollwork.
At its heart sits the original, heavy hand-forged iron hub—a rugged, industrial contrast to the delicate wood carvings. When mounted on a gallery wall, positioned over a grand fireplace, or styled in a minimalist courtyard, this wheel acts as an architectural anchor, drawing the eye with its raw, circular symmetry and historic gravity.
Design & Mounting Attributes
Sculptural Focal Point: Designed primarily as a monumental wall hanging or a free-standing floor sculpture supported by a custom iron stand.
Material Integrity: Features the authentic iron-clad outer rim and central structural hub of a working historical cart, preserving its rustic antiquity.
Atmospheric Finish: Gently cleaned to preserve its natural, weather-worn patina, then finished with a protective coat of matte organic wax that darkens and enriches the carved channels.
